Last Time Out
Michigan State last competed against Yale, Harvard-Radcliffe, and Indiana at the Big Ten/Ivy League double dual on March 29-30. MSU's varsity eight went 1-1 against Indiana over both days while the second varsity eight swept the Hooisers. On Saturday, Michigan State's varsity and second varsity four finished in front of Harvard-Radcliffe. Despite strong performances from the Spartans to open the season, head coach Matt Weise sees plenty of room for improvement heading into April 12's dual against Ohio State and Rutgers.
"We had some inconsistent performances in the Ivy league dual and are looking to have two solid racing performances this weekend," said Weise. "The team has had two solid weeks of practice and has gained confidence throughout this period. They've been very good at learning from their mistakes and have made appropriate adjustments since our last race. I expect them to be very aggressive on the race course this weekend."
Spartans Receiving Votes in 2019 USRowing/CRCA Poll
After receiving three votes in each of the previous two USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Poll's, Michigan State received 34 votes in the latest poll released on April 10 despite being away from action last weekend. The Spartans previously received 10 votes in the pre-season poll announced in February. Last season, Michigan State was ranked as high as No. 15 in the same poll.
