LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Michigan State track & field took six event wins and posted several personal bests, wrapping up competition at the Louisville Invitational on Saturday at Cardinal Park.
"This meet has always been pretty good to us and historically we've had some wins and personal bests, we saw that again today," Director of track & field Walt Drenth said. "There were some bright spots in a lot of places. I was really pleased in how it went for us. Jerimiah (Evans) and Kayli (Johnson) really stood out in the shot and I thought Morgan (Beadlescomb) and Justine (Kiprotich) looked really good. I also thought Carlyn (Arteaga) looked great."

Junior Carlyn Arteaga won the women's 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:22.95, while senior Erin McDonald finished third with a personal best time of 4:24.19. MSU made it a sweep in the 1,500 as sophomore Morgan Beadlescomb took the men's victory in a time of 3:50.44.

"I think we still have some growing up we can do as we move forward," Drenth said. "We got lucky in a couple places today, and I'd like to see us be sharp right off the bat. These days of competition are really long and we need to take care of ourselves. We need to get some of these together to be competitive at the conference meet. I thought we did a nice job today for being only the third meet."
The Spartans are back in action next week, April 19-20 at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Virginia.
