"I think we're playing very well right now," MSU head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll said. "We're excited about the opportunity to have a chance to go to the national championship. This is probably one of the deepest teams that we've ever had at Michigan State when you look at the scoring averages from top to bottom."
The 18 teams competing at Forest Akers West in the East Lansing Regional, listed in order of seed, include: 1. Stanford, 2. Arizona, 3. Kent State, 4. UCLA, 5. Michigan State, 6. Campbell, 7. Illinois, 8. Baylor, 9. North Carolina, 10. Georgia, 11. Louisville, 12. Augusta, 13. LSU, 14. Indiana, 15. Long Beach State, 16. Xavier, 17. Harvard and 18. IUPUI.
There will also be six individuals (not from qualifying teams) that will be taking part in the East Lansing Regional: Hee Ying Loy (East Tennessee State), Emma Albrecht (Notre Dame), Kirsty Hodgkins (Colorado), Cecilie Finne-Ipsen (Charlotte), Ashley Lau (Michigan) and Tereza Melecka (East Tennessee State).
"We want to make sure we put our best foot forward to do everything possible to make everyone feel comfortable and roll out the welcome mat for every team that is going to be here," Slobodnik-Stoll said. "Seeing the teams of my friends that are coaches that have never been to Michigan State, or maybe teams coming to a regional for the first time – it's a memory you'll never forget."
The teams and individual players will play a total of 54 holes (one round per day), with tee-times scheduled between 8-11 a.m. all three days (Monday – Wednesday) at Forest Akers West. Admission to the tournament is free.
It's the second time MSU is hosting an NCAA Regional as the Spartans last held the tournament in 2002.
East Lansing is one of four regional sites, all of which contain 18 teams and six individuals. The other regions are Auburn, Alabama (Auburn University Club); Cle Elum, Washington (Tumble Creek Golf Club); and Norman, Oklahoma (Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club).
The top six teams and top-three individuals not from those qualifying teams from each of the four regionals will advance to the national championships to be played May 17-22 at Blessing's Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
