Men's Tennis Opens Fall Season at Notre Dame, Princeton Invites

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team opens fall play this weekend, with trips to South Bend, Ind. and Princeton, N.J. for the Ivy-Plus and Bayliss Invitational.
MSU freshmen Jarreau Campbell and Kazuki Matsuno will compete for the Spartans at the Notre Dame Invite and fellow freshman Andrew Keene will join returners John Carlin, Carson Gates and Anthony Pero at the Ivy-Plus Princeton Invite.
The Notre Dame Invite, which will take place at Eck Tennis Pavilion, and the Ivy-Plus Princeton Invite (Cordish Family Pavilion and Lenz Tennis Center) will begin Sept. 20 and run through Sept. 22.
"We are excited to open our fall season at the Ivy Plus-Princeton and Notre Dame Invite this weekend. Both are very strong tournaments and a great opportunity to compete with the nations best. Our vision and mission for this fall season is focusing on developing and growing our skills physically, mentally and strategically that will prepare us for the dual match season in January," said 29th-year head coach Gene Orlando.
The Spartans return five players from last season and add three freshmen to the 2019-20 squad. Junior Jack Winkler, who begins the season ranked No. 98 in singles preseason rankings, compiled a team-high 18 wins in 2018-19, including an 8-3 mark in fall action.
Princeton Invite Draw
Teams: Brown, Buffalo, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Indiana, Kentucky, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Michigan State, Penn, Penn State, Princeton, Tennessee, Texas, William & Mary and Yale.
Format
Singles action will consist of five 16-player draws and doubles action will be five separate draws with eight pairs in each.
Schedule
Friday, Sept. 20: Two rounds of doubles beginning at 9 a.m. and one round of singles beginning at 12 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 21: Two rounds of singles throughout the day with play beginning at 9 a.m.
Sunday, Sept. 22: One round of doubles at 9 a.m., followed by a round of singles beginning at 9:45 a.m.
Notre Dame Invite
Teams: Louisville, Nebraska, Illinois, Western Michigan, Marquette, Wisconsin, Denver, Cleveland State, Notre Dame and Michigan State
Format
Singles action will consist of three different flights (a, b, c) and one flight for doubles. Players will play four singles matches and two/three doubles matches throughout the weekend.
Schedule

Saturday, Sept. 21: Singles and doubles play all day
Sunday, Sept. 22: Singles and doubles play all day
