Spartan Men's Soccer Concludes Homestand Against Cornell Sunday

MSU women's soccer opens the doubleheader at 12 p.m.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's soccer concludes its four-game homestand against Cornell on Sunday, Sept. 8 at DeMartin Stadium at 3 p.m.. This is the first meeting between the Spartans and the Big Red.
The Spartans are 0-1-2 this season after falling to No. 13 Washington on Friday. The game is the second half of a doubleheader with the MSU women's team, who will face Detroit Mercy at 12 p.m.Â
SCOUTING Cornell
Cornell was picked to finish third in the Ivy League behind Princeton and Dartmouth, respectively. Last season, the Big Red finished with an overall record of 11-6 and were 4-3 in Ivy League play.Â
This is the first meeting between Cornell and Michigan State.
Cornell dropped its season opener against Michigan on Friday, Sept. 6, falling to the Wolverines 3-0 in Ann Arbor. Both sides were held scoreless for the first 34 minutes of the match before Michigan forward Mohammed Zakyi broke through to score the eventual game-winning goal.
SOLID IN THE NET
Redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Hunter Morse has been solid in net in his first three games of the season. Morse captured a shutout in the first game of the season with 0-0 tie against SIUE. In three games, Morse has a 0.58 goals against average and a .857 save percentage.
LAST TIME OUT
Despite a career-high seven saves from redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Hunter Morse, the No. 16 Michigan State men's soccer team could not overcome a first-half goal, as No. 13 Washington stopped the Spartans 1-0 Friday night at DeMartin Stadium.
With the loss, the Spartans now stand 0-1-2 this season, while Huskies improve to 3-0-0 this season.
Prior to the game, Michigan State honored the 2018 NCAA College Cup team. The spirited was led by MSU's student group, the Red Cedar Rowdies.
Washington came out hot in the first half, three shots in the first 20 minutes of action. The Spartans weathered the storm and kept the game scoreless. The Huskies found the back of the net in the 44th minute. Lucas Meek scored his first goal of the season off passes from Imanol Rosales and Dylan Teves.
