Spartan Women’s Tennis Shuts Out UMass, 4-0

HANOVER, N.H. – Michigan State women's tennis defeated UMass, 4-0, on Saturday evening in a neutral-site match.
MSU won the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Senior Samantha Memije and sophomore Nicole Stephens defeated Avery and Mezini, 6-3, to put MSU in the running for the doubles point. UMass took a 6-4 win on court two, with Bogocevic and Tripathy defeating junior Mary Lewis and sophomore Jennifer Timotin.
The doubles point was clinched on court one with the sophomore duo of Lauren Lemonds and Maja Pietrowicz defeating Napadiy and Boeci to give the Spartans the 1-0 advantage heading into singles.
In singles play, the Spartans took three matches to shutout the Minutemen, 4-0. Lemonds defeated Bogevic 6-3, 6-0 on court two. Stephens then swept Avery 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Timotin also took a 6-0, 6-1 lead over Mezini at No. 5 singles.
MSU continues the East Coast road trip tomorrow against Dartmouth with the match scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
