Spartans Complete Weekend Sweep with 4-2 Win Over Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. – Michigan State women's tennis defeated Dartmouth, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon to complete the weekend sweep.
On Saturday, MSU shutout UMass, 4-0, to begin the East Coast road trip. MSU improves to 8-3 overall and has won six-consecutive matches.
In doubles play, Dartmouth's Allison McCann and Racquel Lyn defeated sophomore Lauren Lemonds and junior Mary Lewis, 6-0, at the No. 2 position to put them in the running for the doubles point. Freshman Dagmar Zdrubecka and freshman Maja Pietrowicz defeated Abigail Chiu and Nicole Conard, 6-3, on court one to even the race.
The doubles point was clinched at No. 3 singles with senior Samantha Memije and sophomore Nicole Stephens downing Chidimma Okpara and Ashley Hess, 6-4 to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
In singles play, the Spartans took the first two matches to widen the lead to three. Lewis defeated Conard in straight-sets, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 1 position. Sophomore Jennifer Timotin added another win with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over McCann on court six.
With MSU leading 3-0 and looking to clinch the match, Dartmouth added two singles victories on court two to make it a one point match. Cable took a three-set victory over Stephens, 3-6, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 4 singles while Lyn took a 7-6 (4), 6-3 decision over Memije in the No. 2 position.
The match was clinched at No. 5 singles with Pietrowicz downing Hess, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
MSU returns home next weekend for the last non-conference match of the season, hosting Princeton on Sunday, March 1 at 10 a.m. at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
