
Spartan Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 11 Princeton

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women's tennis fell to No. 11 Princeton, 7-0, on Saturday at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility to close out non-conference play.
MSU falls to 8-4 on the season, while No. 11 Princeton improves to 10-4 overall.
"We knew going into today that Princeton is a tough team and we needed to bring our best and compete our hardest and we just didn't do that. We better learn from this and toughen up before the start of our Big Ten season."
In doubles play, the Tigers picked up wins on courts one and two to take the doubles point and a 1-0 lead going into singles.
Princeton's No. 23-ranked Daria Frayman and Grace Joyce defeated sophomore Maja Pietrowicz and freshman Dagmar Zdrubecka, 6-0, at No. 1 singles. Senior Samantha Memije and sophomore Nicole Stephens won a dominant match at No. 3 doubles, 6-0, to even the race for the doubles point.
The doubles point was clinched on court two with junior Mary Lewis and sophomore Jennifer Timotin falling to Brianna Shvets and Nathalie Rodilosso, 6-1, to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
In singles play, Princeton struck first and picked up three straight wins to clinch the match. Joyce defeated Stephens, 6-2, 6-2 on court four. No. 109 Daria Frayman took a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Memije on court two. The match was clinched at the No. 3 position with No. 57 Howard defeating Lemonds, 6-1, 6-1.
With the match already clinched, Lewis fell to No. 17-ranked Shvets, 6-3, 6-2, on court one. Pietrowicz and Timotin went to three sets with their opponents but eventually fell in a 10-point tiebreaker. Pietrowicz battled but dropped the match to Schrage, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3) at No. 5 singles. Timotin came back to win the second set after dropping the first, but fell 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9) on court six to McKee.

MSU returns to the court next weekend, hosting Iowa in its Big Ten home opener on Sunday, March 8 at 10 a.m.
