Men's Tennis Returns Home Saturday Against Brown

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State's men's tennis team returns home this Saturday, Feb. 29 to take on Brown in its final non-conference match of the season. Match time is slated for 12 p.m. inside the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.

"We are looking forward to playing our last nonconference match against the Brown Bears on Saturday," said MSU men's tennis head coach Gene Orlando. " We are anticipating a very competitive match that will come down to the last match on."
LAST TIME OUT
MSU split a pair of matches on Feb. 21 and Feb. 23 in Des Moines, Iowa. MSU rallied from down 3-0 to Drake on its way to a thrilling 4-3 win over the Bulldgos on Friday. The Spartans reeled off four-straight singles wins after dropping the doubles point and junior John Carlin clinched the match on court one to secure the victory. On Sunday, MSU fell to New Mexico, 4-0, in a neutral contest inside Drake's Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
Michigan State enters the weekend 5-5 overall and 4-1 at home with wins over Toledo, Ball State, Niagara, Western Michigan and Drake. Sophomores Anthony Pero and Carson Gates along with junior Josh Mukherjee lead the Spartans in singles play with four wins apiece and Mukherjee and freshman Kazuki Matsuno hold a 4-6 doubles record in flight three. Pero is 1-2 against nationally ranked opponents with a win over No. 124 Kennosuke Nouchi.
SCOUTING BROWN
Brown enters Saturday's match with an 8-3 overall record. The Bears have competed in just one away match on the season, a 4-0 loss at Cornell on Friday, Feb. 14. BU has wins over Quinnipiac, Binghamton, Buffalo, Fordham, Fairfield, Sacred Heart, Yale and Boston College. Brown has lost two of its last three matches. Ching Lam leads the Bears with a 12-7 overall record, mainly in the second flight. Jacob Walker is 9-5 overall on courts two and three and Charles Tan sits at 11-8 overall, primarily on courts four and five. Lam and Walker lead the Bears in doubles with a 7-7 mark in flights one and two.
SERIES HISTORY
Friday's match between Michigan State and Brown will be the third meeting all-time. Brown leads the head-to-head series over the Spartans, 2-0. The two teams met last on March 4, 2006 at Brown, where the Bears won a close one, 4-3.
UP NEXT
Michigan State opens conference play on Friday, March 13 against No. 5 Michigan in Ann Arbor (6 p.m.) before hosting No. 3 Ohio State on Sunday, March 15 at 12 p.m. in East Lansing.
