MSU will begin season weekend of Jan. 22.
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State gymnastics' 2021 schedule was released by the Big Ten Conference office Monday, and the Spartans will compete in a B1G-only eight-meet schedule.
Due to the delayed start of the season because of the COVID-19 pandemic, MSU will compete in at least three home meets and at least four meets, with the Big Five Meet and Big Ten Championships locations to be announced at a later date. The B1G also announced that the schedule will include five meets that count towards the conference standings, plus two non-conference meets, in addition to the Big Five meet.
At this time, the schedule only includes "weekend of" dates, with further dates and times to be determined and announced later, following the selection of TV meets.
After an opening weekend bye, Michigan State will start the 2021 season the weekend of Jan. 22 at Maryland. The Spartans' first home meet will be the weekend of Jan. 29 vs. Nebraska.
MSU will open the February portion of the schedule at Ohio State the weekend of Feb. 5, followed by hosting Minnesota the weekend of Feb. 12. Michigan State will compete at Illinois on the weekend of Feb. 19, in the final prep before the Big Five Meet on the weekend of Feb. 26.
The Spartans host in-state rival Michigan the weekend of March 5, before a return trip to Ohio State the weekend of Feb. 12. MSU's competitions against Michigan and Ohio State are non-conference meets and will not count toward the Spartans' conference record.
The Big Ten Championships are the weekend of March 19.
Further information about fan attendance, television/streaming and postseason information will be announced at a later date on MSUSpartans.com.
