Women’s Golf to Play in Windy City Classic this Week

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's women's golf team plays its second event of the school year on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 4-5) at the Windy City Classic, hosted by Northwestern University. The two-day, 54-hole event will be held at Westmoreland Country Club in Wilmette, Ill. and features a 15-team field with nine of the top-25 ranked teams in the country.

Par/Yardage: 72 / 6,457 yards
Format: Stroke play, 54 holes, play five, count four
Schedule: Monday – Rounds 1 and 2 beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start
Tuesday: Round three with tee times starting at 8:30 a.m. off the first and 10th holes.

Michigan State shot a 12-over par 300 in the final round and ended the Cougar Classic in 12th place with a 14-over par 878 (291-287-300). The 17-team field featured 11 squads from last season's NCAA Regionals, including Arkansas, which won the Cougar Classic at 23-under-par 841. Arkansas' Brooke Matthews topped the field at the Cougar Classic with an NCAA-record 25-under-par 191. Valentina Rossi led all Spartans at 1-over-par 217 (72-69-76) and finished in 29th place.
WINDY CITY CLASSIC HISTORY
In 2017, Michigan State earned its third top-three finish of the fall by taking third place in the Windy City Collegiate Championship in Highland Park, Illinois. The Spartans finished 14-over-par 866 (283-287-296), four shots ahead of fourth-place Florida. Arizona State won the tournament with a 1-over-par 853 (280-288-285). Sarah Burnham and Paz Marfa Sans tied for third place at 4-under par 209, shooting below or even par for all three rounds, to lead the Spartans.
