Spartans Move Up to Third Place at The Landfall Tradition

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's women's golf team fired a 5-under par 283 in the second round and is in third place among 18 teams after the first round of play at The Landfall Tradition, being played at the Country Club of Landfall's Pete Dye Course in Wilmington, N.C.
The three-day event concludes on Sunday, Oct. 31 with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start. The Landfall Tradition is being played on the par-72, 6,150-yard course.
The Spartans score of 283 was the third-lowest round of the tournament.

Michigan leads the field at 8-under par 568, with South Carolina in second place at 7-under 569. The Spartans are in third place at even-par 576. UCF (2-over par 578) and Virginia Tech (4-over over par 580) round out the top-five teams.
Senior Valery Plata (Floridablanca, Colombia/Colegio La Quinta del Puente) and sophomore Valentina Rossi (Rosario, Argentina) are tied for 11th place at 1-under par 143 to lead the Spartans. Plata fired a 3-under par 68 in Saturday's round, with five birdies. Rossi shot a 1-over par 73 in the second round.
Sophomore Leila Raines (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy Berlin) and senior Haylin Harris (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) are tied for 20th place with scores of 3-over par 147. Raines posted an even-par 72 in the second round, while Harris finished with a 1-over par 73.
Freshman Brooke Biermann (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) was tied for the team's lowest round on Saturday with a 3-under par 69. She is tied for 69th place at 9-over par 153.
