Max Christie Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's men's basketball freshman guard Max Christie (Arlington Heights, Ill./Rolling Meadows) was named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday. This is the second-straight week Christie has won the award.

The Spartans, ranked No. 12 in the country in the Associated Press poll and the ESPN Coaches poll, posted wins over Minnesota (75-67) and Penn State (80-64) last week, improving to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in the Big Ten Conference.

Christie averaged 8.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals in the wins last week. He scored nine points, with five rebounds, three assists and a career-high three blocks in the win at Minnesota.

In 11 games this year, Christie has started every game while averaging 8.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.

After playing 11 games in 33 days in New York City, Michigan, Indianapolis, the Bahamas and Minneapolis, the Spartans are off until Tuesday, Dec. 21, when they play Oakland University at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The games will tip off at 7:30 p.m. and will be available to stream on ESPN+.
