EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's basketball senior guard Nia Clouden was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday, as announced by the league office.
The Owings Mills, Maryland native had a record setting-week at the West Palm Beach Invitational. Clouden scored 50 points in the Spartans' double overtime loss to Florida Gulf Coast on Dec. 20. She broke All-American Tori Jankoska's MSU record of 42 points, which was set against Ohio State on Jan. 17, 2017. The 50 points is also the most points scored in the NCAA this season. She became just third Big Ten player ever to score 50 points, joining Minnesota's Rachel Banham (2015-16) and Michigan's Naz Hillman (2020-21).
Against West Virginia, she also added a game-high 22 points. Despite a pair of losses, Clouden averaged 36.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. She was 23-for-44 from the field, shooting 52.3 percent. The guard was also 25-for-28 from the charity stripe, shooting 89.4 percent.
This is the senior guard's first B1G Player of the Week honors of the season, but she was named to the Big Ten Honor Roll on Nov. 29. Overall, this is only the second Player of the Week honor for Clouden, also being honored on Nov. 18 2019.
Clouden is the third Spartan to be honored this season with Matilda Ekh and Dee Hagemann earning Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors earlier this season.
In their only game of the week, the Spartans host Nebraska on Thursday, Dec. 30 at 3 p.m. The game will now be televised on the Big Ten Network.
