GAME Â SYNOPSIS
- FIRST PERIOD:  Penn State got an early power play, as Jagger Joshua was sent off for roughing and an additional 10-minute misconduct 1:01 into the game.   Just as Joshua was preparing to return to the ice, the home team broke through with the first goal of the game – Xander Lampa freed the puck along the right wall and fed Christian Sarlo in the high slot, and he beat DeRidder stick-side for the 1-0 lead.Â
Â
- SECOND PERIOD:  MSU had an early 5-on-3 in the second, but Penn State was able to kill off both penalties and even had a good shorthanded chance that was stopped by DeRidder. Autio kept his team in it through a pair of Spartan flurries in their offensive zone, and his team rewarded him by doubling the lead at 15:31. Clayton Phillips drew DeRidder to the left post where the goalie made the save, but the rebound squirted out to the right side to Ryan Kirwan, who put away his fifth goal for a 2-0 lead at 15:31.    Cole Krygier got the Spartans back within one just over two minutes later, when the Spartans were buzzing low and the defenseman pounced on a loose puck on the right side and put it away for his third goal of the season. Drew DeRidder made 13 saves in the period, while Autio made nine stops.
- THIRD PERIOD:  The Spartans tied the game at 2:33 of the frame with some impressive stickhandling from Christian Krygier, who split the defenders and scored his first goal of the season. At 9:30, the Nittany Lions went back on top with a power play goal, as Connor MacEachern's shot from the left side got past a screened DeRidder A power play chance for MSU with 8:09 remaining saw the Spartans move the puck well on the man advantage, but it expired without a goal for the visitors. The final goal in the game crossed the line with just .04 seconds remaining in the game, as the Nittany Lions scored into an empty net.Â
