Max Christie Named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State men's basketball guard Max Christie (Arlington Heights, Ill./Rolling Meadows) was named the Big Ten Conference Co-Freshman of the Week on Monday. Christie shared the award with Wisconsin freshman Chucky Hepburn.

The Spartans, No. 19 in this week's Associated Press Top 25 poll and No. 20 in the ESPN Coaches poll, posted wins over Louisville (73-64) and Toledo (81-68) last week. MSU has won seven of its last eight games and enters Big Ten Conference play with a 7-2 record.

In two games, Christie averaged 12.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists. He scored a team-high 14 points, with three rebounds, three assists and two blocks, to lead five players in double figures in the win over Toledo on Saturday. Christie added 11 points and two rebounds in the win over Louisville.

Christie is fourth on the team in scoring with 8.9 points per game, while adding 3.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists through nine games.

Michigan State opens up Big Ten Conference play on Wednesday, Dec. 8, visiting Minnesota. The game will air on BTN (9 p.m.), with Kevin Kugler and Brian Butch calling all of the action.
