MSU Women’s Tennis Travels to No. 8 Ohio State and Penn State

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's tennis concludes a four-game road trip at Ohio State and Penn State this weekend.
The Spartans will take on No. 8 Ohio State on Friday, Feb. 26 at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center. First serve is set for 10 a.m. The Buckeyes are 7-2 overall and 4-0 in Big Ten action.
The Spartans are off to a solid start with a 3-2 record overall and a 3-1 mark in Big Ten action. Last season, Ohio State defeated Michigan State, 4-1, in East Lansing. Overall, the Buckeyes lead the series 33-14.
MSU will then take on PSU at 10 a.m. at the Sarni Tennis Center. Penn State is 4-1 overall and 3-1 in league matches. The Nittany Lions improved to 3-0 on the road for the first time since the 2012-13 season. Penn State and Michigan State met in a non-conference matchup earlier this season. In that battle, the Nittany Lions won the double point.
Singles was a battle that came down to the last match. With the match tied 3-3, junior Lauren Lemonds took on Frederikke Svarre. The two split the first two sets with Svarre taking the first (7-6) and Lemonds winning the second 6-3. The final set was back and forth with Svarre sneaking past Lemonds, 7-5.
Last week, the Spartans played a pair of tight matches. Michigan State came out on top with 4-3 win at Purdue on Feb. 20, before falling to Indiana, by the same margin on Feb. 21.
Freshman Ayshe Can is off to a fast start with a 4-1 record in singles with junior Maja Pietrowicz also standing 4-1. Playing at the No. 5 spot, junior Nicole Stephens is 3-1.

Following the games against Ohio State and Penn State, the Spartans will return home for a pair of matches against teams from the Land of Lincoln. MSU will host Northwestern on March 6 and Illinois on March 7.
