MSU and Penn State will play indoors in State College.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State men's soccer remains on the road to take on Penn State on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. The game will be run indoor, at Holuba Hall in State College, Pennsylvania.
Saturday's showdown between the Spartans and Nittany Lions will have live stats and be streamed on Big Ten Network + with links available at MSUSpartans.com.
The Spartans enter their first road game outside the state of Michigan at 0-2 looking to bounce back after falling to Rutgers, 2-0, in the season opener on Feb. 19, and a heartbreaking, 1-0 loss to Michigan, on Feb. 23 . This is the only contest with the Nittany Lions of the 2020-2021 conference only schedule.
"We're excited, even with the COVID conditions, it's still nice just to travel together and be as a team on the road. Even though some things will be different, I think it's good to get the guys together," MSU head coach Damon Rensing said. "I think we're excited for the opportunity to go play, and anytime you can leave the state and represent Michigan State University, it's that much more exciting, especially against a good Penn State team. They've got eight starters back from their 2019 team that made a nice NCAA Tournament run."
Juniors, Jack Beck, Farai Mutatu, and Olu Ogunwale, along with freshmen Vedad Kovac and Jack Zugay show promising numbers on offense for the Spartans as they look to find the back of the net for the first time this season.
"We're excited for the opportunity, we feel like we got better from game one to game two, and we're looking forward to making improvements from game two to game three," Rensing said.
The Spartans are looking for looking for their first goal of the season, after a pair of low-scoring tight contests to open the season, and will look to get their offense going in the third game of the season on Saturday.
"We've just tried to play a little quicker and be more a little more decisive in the final third," Rensing said. "Obviously we haven't had a ton of time having just played Tuesday, off Wednesday, but then we had yesterday and a little bit today, but just a lot of trust in each other, playing some quicker combinations and be just a little bit more dangerous."
Redshirt-junior goalkeeper Hunter Morse will protect the net as he currently has currently four saves in the two games played.
Penn State enters the game at 2-0 after a win against Maryland and Rutgers. In both games, the Nittany Lions found the back of the net only in the first half.
Last season, the injury-exhausted Spartans dropped the only contest of the season between the two teams, 3-0, at DeMartin Stadium.
The Spartans will return to home to face Ohio State on Mar. 3. Stay tuned to MSUSpartans.com for more game information.
