Spartans Tied For Third After Two Rounds of the FAU Paradise Invitational

BOCA RATON, Florida – The Michigan State women's golf team is 6-under-par 570 (282-288) after the opening two rounds of the of the FAU Paradise Invitational in Boca Raton, Florida, on Monday. The Spartans are just four shots behind the leader, South Florida; two shots behind second-place Vanderbilt; and are tied with Maryland.

All five Spartans are in the top 20, led by Yurika Tanida, who is tied for seventh place after shooting a pair of 1-under-par 71s and is 2-under-par 142 at Boca Lago Country Club. Tanida started off the day with an eagle on the par-5, 491-yard first hole en route to her first 71. Her consistent round two included 15 pars.
Haylin Harris is tied for 11th place at even-par 144. Two birdies over the final five holes in round one got her to 1-under-par 71, while she carded a 1-over-par 73 in the afternoon.
Paz Marfa Sans followed a 3-over-par 75 to begin the tournament with the best score of any Spartan in round two with a 2-under-par 70. She's tied for 15th place at 1-over-par 145.
Valery Plata and Nina Rissi are tied for 17th place at 2-over-par 146.
Rissi tied for the second-lowest score of the day by any player in the 13-team field with a 4-under-par 68 in the opening round. Rissi was 3-under-par at the turn and wound up with five birdies in her opening round. She shot a 6-over-par 78 in the afternoon.
Plata shot an even-par 72, followed by a 2-over-par 74 in round two.
Maryland's Virunpat Olankitkunchai and Vanderbilt's Auston Kim lead the tournament at 8-under-par 136.
The third and final round of the tournament is scheduled to begin at 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday.
