East Lansing, Mich. --Â The Big Ten has announced the 2021 softball schedule, which sets up with 44 conference games for each B1G team and begins on Friday, Feb. 26.
Complete Michigan State Softball ScheduleÂ
The schedule will have a different look for 2021 – as it is across the Big Ten, the softball teams will play a conference-only schedule. Each team will play two weekends in Florida where they will play multiple teams, and then each team will play eight, four game weekend series (four home, four away).  In 2021, all teams will play each of the other 13 conference schools at least twice and up to four times.Â
Â
"First off – we all need to be very thankful that we're able to play, and that we're going to be given these opportunities," said head coach Jacquie Joseph. "There are teams in the Big Ten that we haven't had the opportunity to play in recent years because the scheduling matrix just hasn't worked that way – but now, we will play all 13 teams.
Â
"That all said, we still need to be understanding of the fact that things can change even more than we're used to. This is going to require everyone to be accepting of flexibility, and it will be a good lesson for everyone from the people on our staff to the student-athletes. The teams that do that better than others will have more opportunities. We've seen the enthusiasm in our players – they remember the feelings from last spring when our season was cut short. I think that getting back out on the ballfield will be good for all of us, and we're excited to get underway in a couple of weeks."
Â
The city of Leesburg, Florida will be the "home base" for Big Ten softball on two separate weekends: February 26-28, and March 11-14. There will not be any tickets sold for general admission to any of these games in Florida, per Big Ten protocols, and fans will not be allowed inside the complex.
Â
In the first Florida weekend (Feb. 26-28), MSU will play three doubleheaders over three days against Northwestern, Nebraska, and Iowa. The second weekend allows for three-game series against both Illinois and Minnesota. Â
Â
MSU's four home weekends will come against Rutgers (March 26-28), Penn State (April 16-18), Purdue (April 23-25), and Wisconsin (May 7-9). Road series will be played Maryland (April 9-11), at Indiana (April 30-May 2) and at Ohio State (May 14-16).
Â
The MSU-Michigan series is currently scheduled for April 2-4, and further updates on the locations of the games that weekend will come once the details are finalized. Furthermore, game times and dates are always tentative and subject to change. Fans are reminded to frequently check the softball schedule page at MSUSpartans.com for the most up-to-date information.Â
