
Spartan Women’s Tennis Hosts No. 7 Northwestern and Illinois

EAST LANSING, Mich. - After a lengthy four-match road trip, the Michigan State women's tennis team returns to the friendly confines of the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility to take on No. 7 Northwestern and Illinois. MSU opens the weekend, taking on the Wildcats on Saturday, March 6 at 11 a.m., before facing Illini on Sunday, March 7 at 11 a.m.
The Spartans hold 3-4 record overall and a 3-3 mark in Big Ten action. Michigan State looks to snap a three-game losing streak after losses to Ohio State (6-1) and Penn State (4-3) last week.
Northwestern is 9-1 in 2021 with four wins in matches against top-25 teams, three of which came against teams in the top 10. The Wildcats have won six-straight to start conference play after taking 6-1 wins over Minnesota and Wisconsin last weekend.
This season, Illinois is 1-4 overall and in Big Ten matches. The Illini earned their first win of the season with a tightly-contested 4-3 win over Minnesota on Feb. 28.
Last week, Michigan State suffered a pair of losses. MSU started the weekend with a loss to No. 8 Ohio State, 6-1, before falling to Penn State on 4-3.
Junior Lauren Lemonds leads the Spartans with a 6-1 dual match record, play primarily ad the No. 3 and No.4 singles spots. Freshman Ayshe Can is 5-2, including a 2-0 mark at the No. 6 spot.
