East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State men's basketball junior forward Aaron Henry (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) was selected to the All-Big Ten Conference Third Team and was selected to the Big Ten All-Defensive Team by the conference's coaches, the league office announced on Tuesday, March 9.
Henry was selected to the All-Big Ten Third Team by the league's coaches, as well as the media.
Graduate guard Joshua Langford (Huntsville, Ala./Madison Academy) was MSU's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree.
"I'm really happy for Aaron and I think this is a much-deserved honor for him," Head Coach Tom Izzo said. "Aaron has devoted himself to getting better and better over the last couple of years and to see him grow and become the person and player he is now is one of the great things about coaching. He's become a multi-dimensional player. He can shoot, drive, rebound and has become one of the great defenders in our league. We've asked him to do so much for us this year and he responded every time. This is very deserving for him and I give him a lot credit for the work he has put in to earn this honor."
Henry, a co-captain, leads MSU in scoring (15.5 ppg), assists (3.5 apg), steals (1.3 spg) and minutes played (32.2 mpg) and is second on the team in rebounding (5.5 rpg) and blocks (1.3 bpg). Henry ranks ninth in the Big Ten in scoring, tied for 12th in assists, seventh in blocked shots, 11th in steals and 10th in minutes played. In addition, Henry is 12th in the league in field goal percentage (44.8%) and eighth in free throw percentage (77.8%).
Named the Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday for the first time in his career, Henry has scored in double figures in 24 of 26 games this season, including the last 13 of the regular season. He has scored at least 20 points seven times, including a career-high 27 points twice (at Nebraska on Jan. 2 and at Indiana on Feb. 20).
Henry is one of only two players in Division I averaging at least 15.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.3 blocks per game.
Michigan State finished the regular season with a 15-11 overall record, including a 9-11 mark in the Big Ten Conference. The Spartans closed out the regular season with five wins in the last seven games, including three over teams ranked among the top five in the Associated Press poll.
