Spartans Host Purdue and Indiana on Senior Weekend

EAST LANSING, Mich. – After two consecutive weekends on the road, the Michigan State men's tennis team will host Purdue on Saturday (April 3) and Indiana on Sunday (April 4) on the MSU campus. Saturday's match has been pushed back to 1 p.m., while Sunday's match is slated to start at noon.
The weather forecast in the East Lansing area is positive for the weekend, with temperatures predicted to be in the low-60s on Saturday and in the high-60s on Sunday, likely leading to the matches being played on the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts. Updates will be posted on Twitter @MSU_Tennis on game day for the location of the match. Please note that if the matches are outside, there will not be live video of the duals.
The Spartans (4-8, 4-6 Big Ten) dropped two road matches to ranked opponents last weekend, falling at No. 41 Northwestern and No. 14 Illinois; however, the weekend before, MSU defeated both Nebraska and No. 48 Iowa.
"We're excited about the possibility of playing outside for our final home weekend and senior weekend," said MSU men's tennis coach Gene Orlando. "I feel like we had a good week of practice and the team will be ready. It's unique this year playing a team twice, especially within a month, but the guys will be ready to go. Right now we feel good about the quality of work we've put in so far this season and we're looking forward to a great weekend at home."
This weekend, the program will recognize John Carlin, the lone senior on the 2020-21 roster. A native of Fort Myers, Florida, Carlin will be a four-year letterwinner for the Spartans (2018-21). He played at No. 1 singles as a junior in 2020 and was awarded the Student-Athlete Support Services Scholar-Athlete Award last April for having the highest cumulative grade-point average on the team. Carlin has compiled 27 wins in singles and 24 victories in doubles during his Spartan career.
"John is a great competitor and has been a great leader for us," said Orlando. "He has been a player in the lineup for us the past three years, but unfortunately this last year he had to battle an injury. He's always worked hard and put himself in a position to help the team."
MSU topped the Boilermakers (1-10) in the first meeting between the two schools on Feb. 27 in West Lafayette, 5-2, but fell at Indiana (4-6), 7-0, in Bloomington on Feb. 28.
