
MSU Wrestling’s Peyton Omania Competing At Olympic Trials

Spartan will be in the 67 kg division of Greco-Roman.
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State wrestler Peyton Omania will be competing at the 2021 United States Olympic Wrestling Team Trials this weekend at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, Friday and Saturday, April 2-3.
The champions from the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Team Trials will become eligible to represent the United States at the postponed 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, August 1-7, 2021.
Omania, a native of Concord, Calif., will be competing in the Greco-Roman division in the 67 kg weight class.
The Spartan wrestler has a well-decorated U.S. Wrestling background, winning two-straight U23 National crowns, as well as winning a bronze medal at the 2019 Junior Worlds in Greco-Roman.
Most recently, Omania captured the 67 kg gold medal at the 2020 U23 Greco-Roman championships at Omaha, Nebraska in November, 2020.
Omania also earned the bronze medal at the 2019 Greco-Roman Junior World Championships in Tallinn, Estonia, to become the first Spartan wrestler to earn a World medal since Franklin Gomez' silver medal at the 2011 World Championships in Istanbul. Omania defeated Xin Huang of China in the bronze medal match, 6-5, jumping out to quick 4-0 lead and holding on to collect the bronze.
Every match of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials competition will be available for fans to watch on a number of NBC platforms, including on NBCSN, Peacock and NBC digital platforms. Championship series coverage will begin at 7:30 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, April 3 on NBCSN.
