
Spartans Close Out Regular Season at Home against Indiana on Thursday

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's field hockey team closes out the 2021 regular season on Thursday, April 15, hosting Indiana at Ralph Young Field (3 p.m.).
The game will air live on BTN, with Chris Vosters and Jeanne Shin Cooper calling all of the action.
Michigan State enters the weekend with a 1-12 overall record and a 1-7 mark in the Big Ten Conference. Indiana is 0-12 overall, including an 0-7 mark in league play.
Seven different players have scored goals for the Spartans, led by junior defender Isa van de Weij (Naarden, The Netherlands/Sint Vintus College), who has scored two goals.
Senior Cara Bonshak (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall), sophomores Nienke Bloemsaat (Oosterhout, The Netherlands/Sint-Gelbert Gymnasium) and Celina Riccardo (Downington, Pa./Downington East) and freshmen Ashley Harlock (Livonia, Mich./Livonia Churchill), Emma O"Neill (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and Ellie Wheatley (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) have scored one goal apiece.
Junior midfielder Lia Sinisi (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex, N.J.) leads the team with three assists.
Junior goalkeeper Jade Arundell (County Kildare, Ireland/The Kings Hospital) leads the team with 60 saves and has a 3.52 goals-against average, while classmate Monique Jardell (Granville, Ohio/Granville), who has started three games, has a 4.25 GAA and 16 saves.
The game on Thursday will be the first of two this weekend for the Hoosiers, who play at Michigan State and then head to Ann Arbor for a game against No. 3 Michigan on April 17. Indiana is coming off a pair of weekend losses against Penn State last weekend, losing the first game, 1-0, and the second, 3-0. Freshman Emma Martin leads Indiana in scoring with one goal and an assist.
This will be the second meeting between the teams this season, as the Spartans posted a 2-0 win at Ralph Young Field on March 7. In the first meeting, O'Neill scored in the first quarter and van der Weij added a goal in the third quarter as the Spartans posted the shutout win.
The meeting on Thursday will be the 31st all-time between the schools, with Michigan State holding a 24-6 advantage in the series. MSU won the last meeting, 2-0, at home in March. The Spartans have won five of the last seven meetings overall and are 11-1 at home against the Hoosiers.
