No. 8 Buckeyes Defeat Spartans

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The eighth-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Michigan State men's tennis team, 7-0, on Friday afternoon at the Auer Tennis Complex in Columbus, Ohio.
OSU (17-2, 14-1 Big Ten) features two ranked teams in doubles and earned the point by winning on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts. No. 47 Nick Williams and Kazuki Matsuno, who defeated No. 73 John McNally and Robert Cash back on March 12 in East Lansing, 6-2, fell on the top court Friday, 6-1. Cannon Kingsley and JJ Tracy beat Graydon Lair and Carson Gates, 6-0.
In singles, the Buckeyes claimed all six matches to earn the 7-0 victory. At No. 2 singles, Carson Gates battled Kingsley, ranked 117th, by taking the first set, 6-4, but dropped the second and third sets, 6-2, 6-4. On the fourth court, Anthony Pero lost to Justin Boulais in the first set, 6-3, but rallied to a tiebreaker in the second set before falling 7-6 (9-7).
Michigan State (5-12, 5-10 Big Ten) returns to action Sunday at noon at Penn State. Live stats will be available at gopsusports.com.
