
Spartan Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 20 Michigan in Regular-Season Finale

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's tennis dropped its regular-season finale at No. 20 Michigan, 4-1, on Sunday in Ann Arbor.
The Spartans close out the regular season with a 6-11 overall and 6-10 in Big Ten play. Michigan State ends the season winning two of its last three dual matches. Michigan captures a share of the Big Ten title with Ohio State with matching 15-1 records.
Michigan State jumped out to a 1-0 lead, winning the doubles point for the third-straight match. Senior Mary Lewis and junior Maja Pietrowicz combined to defeat the No. 54 team of Chiara Lommer and Jaedan Brown, 6-3. The doubles points was clinched at the No. 2 spot. Graduate student Samantha Memije and junior Nicole Stephens stopped Andrea Cerdan and Alyvia Jones, 6-4.
With a doubles win, Memije now has 59 doubles wins, which puts her alone in sixth all-time at Michigan State.
The Wolverines took control in singles action. Michigan won matches at No. 5 and No. 3 singles. Lewis fell to No. 26 Kari Miller at the No. 1 position, 6-2, 7-5. The Wolverines clinched the match with a win at the No. 6 spot when Bella Lorenzini defeated freshman Ayshe Can in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.
At No. 2 singles, junior Lauren Lemonds had split sets with Lommer before their match was abandoned. At the No. 4 spot, Pietrowicz was up, 7-6 (2), 5-3, before the match was halted.
