
Spartan Throwers Head to Fighting Illini Big Ten Relays

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Spartan track & field will have their throwers on display at the Fighting Illini Big Ten Relays, April 23-24 at Demirjian Park in Champaign, Illinois.
"We are sending a smaller group to compete this weekend. With our sequence and planning it made sense for our team to focus on training and recovery this week. I am excited for the opportunity for those who are competing, especially at our Big Ten Championships venue," Interim Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Lisa Breznau said.
On Friday, April 23, Michigan State will be in action starting with the Rebecca Mammel in the women's hammer throw, beginning at 12 p.m. ET. Mammel has the seventh-best throw in the Big Ten this season with a heave of 59.83 at the B1G North Florida Invitational. Brittany Krug will represent the Spartans in the women's javelin, starting at 2 p.m. ET. Krug has the fifth-best throw in the league at 48.17m at the B1G North Florida Invitational. In the women's discus, Mammel and Nikole Sargent will be in action at 6 p.m. ET.
On the men's side, Jerimiah Evans and Dan Stone will compete in the men's shot put on Friday at 5 p.m. ET. Evans is fifth in the conference with a season-best throw of 18.63m at the Big Ten Indiana Invite #3 last week.
The field events will conclude on Friday with the men's javelin at 7:15 p.m., featuring Frank Braccini.
The Spartans will complete action at the Fighting Illini Big Ten Relays on Saturday. Evans and Stone will once again compete in the men's discus at 4 p.m. ET. Evans is third in the B1G with a throw of 57.28m at the Big Ten Indiana Invite #1 to open the outdoor season.
Sargent is the only Spartan woman competing in the shot put at 3:30 p.m. ET. She is 17th in the Big Ten this season, earning her best throw of 15.09m at the Big Ten Indiana Invite #1.
