
Michigan State Plays Two Games at Ohio State this Weekend

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's field hockey team hit the road today for a pair of weekend games at Ohio State. The teams open the weekend on Friday, April 9 (3 p.m.) and close out the series on Sunday, April 11 (noon).
Both games will be streamed on BTN Plus.
The Spartans and Buckeyes will play two games this weekend, but only the first game will count toward Big Ten standings. Per rules from the league's coaches, all teams will play two games per weekend against conference opponents, but only the first game will count toward Big Ten standings.
Michigan State enters the weekend with a 1-10 overall record and a 1-6 mark in the Big Ten Conference. Ohio State is 2-7 overall and 1-4 in the league.
Five different players have scored goals for the Spartans, led by junior defender Isa van de Weij (Naarden, The Netherlands/Sint Vintus College), who has scored two goals. Sophomores Nienke Bloemsaat (Oosterhout, The Netherlands/Sint-Gelbert Gymnasium) and Celina Riccardo (Downington, Pa./Downington East) and freshmen Emma O"Neill (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and Ellie Wheatley (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) have scored one goal apiece.
Junior midfielder Lia Sinisi (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex, N.J.).leads the team with two assists.
Junior goalkeeper Jade Arundell (County Kildare, Ireland/The Kings Hospital) leads the team with 41 saves and has a 3.21 goals-against average, while classmate Monique Jardell (Granville, Ohio/Granville), who has started the last four games, has a 3.99 GAA and 14 saves.
Ohio State is coming off a weekend sweep of Indiana, posting a 5-0 win last Friday and a 6-0 victory on Sunday. Mackenzie Allessie had a pair of hat tricks in both games, finishing the weekend with six goals and one assist. Over the last four games, Ohio State is averaging 4.0 goals per game, have out-shot opponents, 65-31, and have a 28-9 edge in penalty corners.
The Buckeyes lead the all-time series with Michigan State, 39-24-3, and won the last game between the teams, 3-0, in the regular season finale in November 2019.
