Spartans Come Back Falls Short in 4-2 Loss at Ohio State
4/9/2021 7:35:00 PM | Field Hockey
East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's field hockey team scored a pair of goals in the second half but it wasn't enough as its rally fell short in a 4-2 loss to Ohio State on Friday in Columbus, Ohio.
It was the ninth-straight loss for the Spartans, who fall to 1-11 overall and 1-7 in the Big Ten Conference. Ohio State improves to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in league play.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Buckeyes scored midway through the second to take a 1-0 lead and added a second goal just before halftime to take a 2-0 lead into the break. A goal from Katie Pyle midway through the third quarter gave OSU a 3-0 lead.
Freshman Ashley Harlock (Livonia, Mich./Livonia Churchill) took a feed in front of the goal off a cross from senior forward Lia Sinisi (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) to cut the Ohio State lead to 3-1 in the 44th minute.
The Spartans added a second goal in the 56th minute when senior Cara Bonshak (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) scored on an assist from junior Isa van der Weij (Naarden, The Netherlands/Sint Vintus College).
Junior goalkeeper Jade Arundell (County Kildare, Ireland/The Kings Hospital) made nine saves for the Spartans.
The teams play again on Sunday, April 11 (noon) to close out the weekend.
