Spartans Lose to Ohio State in Final Regular Season Road Game

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's field hockey team gave up three goals in the second half and lost its final regular season road game of the season, 5-0, at Ohio State on Sunday afternoon.

It was the 10th-straight loss for the Spartans, who fall to 1-12 overall (1-7 in the Big Ten Conference), while Ohio State improves to 4-7 overall (2-4 in league play). Per league rules established at the start of the season, the game did not count toward Big Ten standings. The first game of the weekend, a 4-2 Ohio State, did count toward league records.

Ohio State's Sarah Charley scored in the third minute of the game to give the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead and Mackenzie Allessie tallied the first of her two goals midway through the second as MSU trailed 2-0 at the break.

The Buckeyes added a goal in the third quarter, Allessie scored her second goal in the fourth and assisted on another to close out the scoring.

Michigan State was out-shot, 25-7, while Ohio State had a 10-3 edge in penalty corners.

Junior goalkeeper Jade Arundell (County Kildare, Ireland/The Kings Hospital) made 10 saves for the Spartans, while junior Monique Jardell (Granville, Ohio/Granville) played the final 17 minutes and recorded three saves.

Michigan State closes out its regular season on Thursday, April 15, hosting Indiana. The game will air live on BTN.
