Texas (1-over-par 289), Oregon (2-over-par 290) and Stanford (3-over-par 291) lead the field.
"It wasn't our normal performance today, but the course was tough and the conditions were a little different than what we say in the practice round yesterday," MSU head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll said. "We definitely learned a lot from today and need to clean it up tomorrow."
Junior Valery Plata led MSU with an even-par 72 in the opening round and is tied for fifth place. Plata was 2-over-par through nine holes, but consecutive birdies on the 10th and 11th holes to start the back nine quickly brought her to even-par. Plata found herself 1-over-par with two holes to play, but she was able to birdie the par-4 17th hole and ended the day even.
In her first action of the postseason, Haylin Harris recorded three birdies and turned in a 3-over-par 75. Harris is tied for 52nd place.
Yurika Tanida shot a 4-over-par 76 and is tied for 74th place, while Paz Marfa Sans shot a 6-over-par 78 and is in 96th.
Leila Raines shot a 12-over-par 84.
Just four players in the field of 131 shot under par on Friday, led by Stanford's Rachel Heck, who carded a 3-under-par 69.
The Spartans were one of 12 teams in the morning group on Friday, while the remaining 12 programs played in the afternoon. MSU will be one of the teams in the afternoon group on Saturday as they'll be paired with Alabama (20-over-par 308) and Kentucky (11-over-par 299) and tee off between 3:36-4:20 p.m. ET.
