MSU now has six Spartans headed to the NCAA Finals.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Morgan Beadlescomb earned a spot in the NCAA Finals by breaking the school record in the 5000m Friday at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Florida at Hodges Stadium.Â
Beadlescomb broke his own school record en route to winning the semifinals of the 5000m with a  time of 13:40.43. Running in the second heat, Beadlescomb remained in the lead pack for the bulk of the race. But with 300m remaining, he made his move and charged to the front of the pack. Once he made his move, he would not relinquish his lead. He previously set the school record at the Big Ten Invite #3 on April 16, clocking in at 13:40.44.
Appearing in his first NCAA East Regional, James Uhlenberg finished 45th (14:44.20).
Â
John Petruno narrowly missed out on advancing to Eugene in the 1500m. With a new personal best, Petruno finished 14th with a time of 3:41.52. The time was the fastest by a Spartan in the 1500m this season. Alabama's Eliud Kipsang set a new facility record to win the quarterfinal with at time of 3:35.49.
In the men's discus, Jerimiah Evans finished 25th with a best throw of 52.68m. His top throw came on this third attempt, but he was unable to advance to the finals.
