Ann Arbor, Mich. - MSU track & field completed the regular season with solid performances at the Len Paddock Open at the U-M Track and Field Stadium.
"We saw a lot of good effort today and a lot of people just trying to figure things out. Sophia (Franklin) did a nice job today, preparing for next weekend. It was good to get one final session in and work through somethings. It was good to get Kendel (Hammock) back out there in the 400m, especially since he wasn't able to compete last week in Bloomington," Interim Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Lisa Breznau said.Â
Sophia Franklin won her second-straight pole vault title after winning last week at the Big Ten Indiana Invite #4. She took first, clearing 4.11m, just ahead of Michigan's Mia Manson (4.01m). Calli Ostapowicz finished third with a vault of 3.86m.
Kendel Hammock took first in the men's 400m with time of 49.64. Zach DiStefano crossed the line in 50.12 to finish second. DiStefano was just shy of his personal best time of 48.99 last week at Big Ten Indiana Invite #4. Running his first 200m, Kaiwan Richardson crossed the line in 22.60 to take fourth.Â
In the men's mile, Justin Ferraro finished third with a time of 4:18.48, while Ty Buckley crossed the line in 4:27.74 to take fourth. It was the first outdoor mile race for either runner this season.
Having run the 1500m twice this season, Elizabeth Dalrymple and Courtney Krupp both ran the 3000m today in Ann Arbor. Dalrymple finished second with at time of 10:04.10, while Krupp took third, crossing the line in 10:09.45. Haley Rathwell finished first in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:03.44.
Nikole Sargent was in action in both the shot put and the discus on Saturday. She finished second with a throw of 14.62m on her second attempt. She also took silver medal honors in the shot put with a  best throw of 43.62m.  Â
"I think right now with so much going on we are focused on keeping everyone calm and reminding them of the connections that they have made with one another through this weekend and the championships weekend, as that has been something that has been a goal of ours. We have wanted them to enjoy the moment with their teammate and keep their energy up around the team," Breznau said.
Michigan State will now head to the Big Ten Championships in Champaign, Illinois May 14-16.
