
MSU Track & Field Completes Historic Seasons

EAST LANSING, Mich. -Â Â Michigan State track & field concluded its historic season by ended the year ranked in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) final standings. Â The Spartan men finished sixth with 113.5 points, while the women were 11th with 90.5 points.
With 40 points, Arkansas was named the NCAA Division I John McDonnell Men's Program of the Year. On the women's side, BYU captured NCAA Division I Terry Crawford Women's Program of the Year honor with 18 points.
First-year Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Lisa Breznau led the programs to his best combined cross country finish in school history.
The Michigan State men were the highest ranked team in the Big Ten. On the women's side, only Minnesota finished higher than MSU. The Gophers finished eighth with 72.5 points.Â
The Spartan men finished 17th at the cross country championship, 31st at indoor and 62nd at outdoor.
The MSU women finished fourth at the cross country championships, 40th at indoor and 44th at outdoor.
In order to be eligible for the award, teams must qualify for each of the NCAA Championships. Scoring is based on the team's finish at each NCAA Championship in cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field (i.e. 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points … 31st = 31 points) with the lowest total score for all three championships combined determining the award winner. Ties among schools split points for positions taken.
