Omania Off to Senior World Team Trials

East Lansing, Mich. -- Michigan State redshirt sophomore Peyton Omania (Concord, Calif.) is in Lincoln, Nebraska this weekend to take part in the USA Wrestling 2021 Senior World Team Trials in Greco-Roman. He is the No. 6 seed at 67K. Â

The championships will be held at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln. The champion in each men's and women's freestyle as well as Greco-Roman will represent Team USA at the 2021 Senior World Championships Oct. 2-10 in Oslo, Norway.Â

Omania, who is the 2019 Junior World bronze medalist, has competed in four age-group World Championships, and is seeded No. 6 in this weekend's event at 67k. He won two straight U23 National crowns, in addition to the bronze medal at Junior Worlds. He captured the 67 kg gold medal at the 2020 U23 Greco-Roman championships in Omaha, Nebraska, and also won bronze at the 2019 Greco-Roman Junior World Championships in Tallinn, Estonia - the first Spartan wrestler to earn a World medal since Franklin Gomez' silver medal at the 2011 World Championships in Istabul.Â
