Hauser’s Last-Second Basket Gives No. 10 Michigan State Thrilling win over Minnesota, 71-69

East Lansing, Mich. – Redshirt senior Joey Hauser (Stevens Point, Wis./Stevens Point/Marquette) hit a layup with one second left, lifting No. 10 Michigan State to a 71-69 win over Minnesota at the Breslin Center on Wednesday night.
It was the ninth-straight win, and the 14th in the last 15 games, for the Spartans, who improve to 14-2 overall and 5-0 in the Big Ten, while Minnesota falls to 10-4 overall and 1-4 in the league.
Freshman guard Max Christie (Arlington Heights, Ill./Rolling Meadows), scored 16 points, had five rebounds and four assists to lead three players in double figures.
Senior forward Gabe Brown (Ypsilanti, Mich./Belleville) scored 13 points with four rebounds and two assists, while junior guard Tyson Walker (Westbury, N.Y./Christ the King/Northeastern) finished with 10 points and three assists.
Sophomore guard A.J. Hoggard (Coatesville, Pa./Huntington Prep [W.Va.]), who had the assist on Hauser's game-winning basket, added five points and led the team with six assists, while Hauser added eight points, five rebounds and one assist.

- Michigan State had taken a 69-64 lead with 2:21 left on a jumper from Christie, but Minnesota chipped away and tied the game at 69-all on free throws from E.J. Stephens with 25 seconds left.

- The Spartans went into the break with a 34-31 lead after a 3-pointer from Minnesota's Payton Willis at the buzzer narrowed what had been a 10-point lead down to three points.
- After a 3-pointer from Jamison Battle cut the MSU lead to 16-13, the Spartans scored seven-straight points and took a 23-13 lead on a jumper from Hauser with 8:01 left in the half, tied for the largest MSU advantage of the night.
- Free throws from Brown with 5:09 to play gave MSU another 10-point lead at 27-17, but the Golden Gophers would end the half with a 14-7 run to cut the lead to three points.
- Michigan State connected on 51.9 percent of its field goals (27-of-52) and hit 42.9 percent of its 3-point field goals (6-of-14).
- The Spartans connected on 84.6 percent of their free throws (11-of-13), including 7-of-9 in the second half.
- Minnesota collected 12 offensive rebounds and scored 17 second-chance points.
- Michigan State leads the all-time series with Minnesota, 75-61, and is 45-20 at home.
- The wins sweeps the regular season series between the teams and MSU has won seven of the last eight games between the teams.

- Tyson Walker scored 10 points, his sixth game in double figures this year.
- Marcus Bingham Jr. blocked four shots, the seventh times this season with at least three in one game.
- Bingham now has 134 career blocked shots and is tied for sixth place on the all-time MSU list with Drew Naymick (2004-08).
