EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State men's and women's track & field teams continue their indoor season on Saturday, Jan, 22 by heading to Ann Arbor for the second-straight weekend to take part in the Michigan Invitational.

Starting at 11 a.m., the meet will feature the Wolverines hosting the Spartans along with Ball State, Cal Poly, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Grand Valley State, John Carroll, Madonna, Miami (Ohio), Northwestern, San Francisco, Toledo and Western Michigan. Five Olympians will also be competing as unattached pros at the meet, including Michigan State alumnus and Tokyo Olympian Tori Franklin.

MSU is coming off a good showing at the Simmons-Harvey Invitiational hosted by UM last Saturday, highlighted by Morgan Beadlescomb (4:01.22) and Jenna Magness (4:41.31) winning the men's and women's one-mile races with personal record times. Other notable finishes included Heath Baldwin taking second in the men's long jump at an indoor PR on 6.77m, Antonio Postell II finishing second at a time of 6.92 in the 60m men's finals and Casey Mossholder being the runner-up in the women's 3000m race with a 9:43.80 finish. Additionally, Steven Stine placed third in the men's 3000m with a PR time of 8:17.71 and Katie Osika landing in third place with a 2:10.51 time in the women's 800m race. In the pole vault, Sophia Franklin retired out of the women's pole vault jump-off and placed second (4.12m), while Trevor Stephenson was third in the men's pole vault with a height of 5.13m

Among national leaders, Magness' mile time at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational ranks fourth in the NCAA and No. 1 in the Big Ten, while Franklin's pole vault height of 4.25m at the GVSU Holiday Open is the best in the conference and 11th-best in Division I and Osika's 800m performance at Simmons-Harvey ranks 22nd.

For the men, Beadlescomb's mile time is the 11th-best in the nation and tops the Big Ten, and Noah Sage's 47.36 time in the 400m at the GVSU Holiday Open ranks 12th nationally.

Saturday will see the Spartan debut of CMU graduate transfer Quiara Wheeler in the women's weight throw, while 2021 Big Ten Women's Cross Country Freshman of the Year Kaitlyn Hynes is slated to make her indoor debut in the women's one-mile race. Several other MSU freshman are set to compete unattached to maintain redshirt status.

Following the Michigan Invitational, Michigan State is sending groups next weekend to the Indiana Relays and the Rod McCravy Memorial, with both meets taking place on Jan. 28-29.
