EAST LANSING, Mich. - For the final time in the 2026 regular season and for the first time in three weeks, Michigan State track & field teams will travel as one to compete in the Jesse Owens Classic on Friday, May 1 in Columbus, Ohio. The 2026 Jesse Owens Classic will be a two-day event, ending on Saturday, May 2.
PREVIOUSLY FOR THE GREEN & WHITE
Last time out, the Spartans were split into two for the Penn Relays and GVSU Extra Weekend Meet, where Michigan State had a slew of successful performances. At the Penn Relays, distance runners had a strong showing all weekend with the relay team of Sydnee Sinn, Sarah Forsyth, Olivia Millen and Kate Stewart-Barnett highlighting the weekend in the 4x800m, with a new school record time of 8:33.40. Stewart-Barnett and Forsyth also set new personal-best times in the 1500m, where each finished inside the top 25.
In Allendale, at the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet, the throwing events were a masterclass in depth and precision, led by thrower Dillon Morlock, who secured two victories and climbed to No. 8 all-time in the MSU history in the men's discus. The men's hammer throw saw junior Xavier Griffiths deliver a massive 65.52m effort to claim the No. 2 spot all-time in Spartan history, while upperclassmen Elle Adrian and Jessica Stieb dominated the women's hammer throw with a title win and a No. 9 all-time mark, respectively.
The Spartans were equally explosive on the track, as the sprint squad notched two new top 10 program marks. Andrew Harding sprinted his way to No. 10 all-time in the 100m, with a time of 10.49, and Cameron Cheetam secured the No. 9 spot in school history, finishing with a time of 20.95 in the men's 200m. Lexy Wilson added to the first-place finishes tally by winning the 400m, leading a one-two Spartan finish with Elizabeth Anderson.
WEEKEND TIMELINE
Friday, May 1
The Spartans look to take momentum into a busy weekend at the 2026 Jesse Owens Classic, with the meet slated to begin at noon on Friday, May 1. The men's hammer throw and women's javelin throw will begin at noon, and MSU will have the trio of Griffiths, Dillon Morlock and Dalton DeBeau set to throw, while Roman will be the lone Spartan in the women's javelin throw. Dylan Terryberry will throw in the men's javelin throw for MSU, beginning at 2:00 p.m., and a quartet of Spartans will represent MSU in the women's hammer throw, set to start an hour after the men's javelin throw.
Shortly after the long jumps, seniors Sophia Mettes and Natalie Blake will compete in the women's pole vault at 5:00 p.m. Also starting at 5:00 p.m., is the women's 1500m run with Ella Christensen, Madison Osterberg, Taylor Ewert, Anjali Kidambi, Megan Germain, Megan Beute and Chloe Wall as the seven Spartan scheduled to compete. Immediately following the women's 1500m run, the men's 1500m run will begin with a meet-high eleven Spartans set to run. Owen Gilbert, Gage Killewald, Matthew Schroff, Jasper Cane, Brady McArdle, Michael Hegarty, Seth Norder, Parker Lambers and Evan Loughridge will all compete in the men's 1500m run for MSU. The 200m runs will take place after the 1500m runs, with Anderson and Roman competing in the women's 200m dash, and Cheetam, Drew Novak and Noah Sage are all scheduled to run in the men's 200m dash. In the final event of the evening Friday night, Moses Osterink and Jack Pennewell will compete for MSU in the men's 1500m, which is slated to begin at 7:20 p.m.
Saturday, May 2
After a long day of action Friday, action resumes at 10:30 a.m. with the women's shot put and men's discus throw. Stieb, Rylan Finstrom and Margaret Jones will throw in the women's shot put, while Dillon Morlock is the only Spartan competing in the men's discus throw. The meet will ramp up at 1 p.m., as four events will contest in the hour. Tess Roman will compete in the women's 100m hurdles, and Finstrom and Kate Stajos will throw in the women's discus throw, while Terryberry and the Morlock brothers, Dillon and Colby, will throw in the men's shot put. The Spartan will also be in action in the men's 100m semifinals at 1:35 p.m.
At 2:15 p.m., Brady Schultz will compete in the men's high jump. Wilson and Anderson will swiftly move over to the women's 400m dash set to take place at 2:35 p.m., while Sage and Terryberry will compete in the men's 400m dash immediately after completion of the women's 400m dash. The 800m runs will begin at 3:10 p.m. and 3:35 p.m. with the women competing first.
