Michigan State Falls at No. 4 Michigan, 29-7

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Michigan State football team fell at No. 4/4 Michigan, 29-7, Saturday night at Michigan Stadium.
Payton Thorne was 17-of-30 passing for 215 yards and one touchdown for Michigan State, while Keon Coleman had five catches for a career-high 155 yards and one TD.
Defensively, three Spartans recorded double-digit tackles: Cal Haladay (13), Jacoby Windmon (12) and Kendell Brooks (11).
The Wolverines got on the board first with a 22-yard Jake Moody field goal at the 2:20 mark in the first quarter, but the Spartans did hold Michigan out of the end zone after it had first-and-goal from the 4-yard line.
MSU responded on its next drive with two long catches by Coleman, first on a 29-yard reception to the UM 39-yard line, then on a 26-yard leaping grab in the end zone that gave the Spartans a 7-3 lead with 23 seconds left in the opening quarter.
Michigan regained the lead on its next possession, driving 80 yards on eight plays, capped by a 2-yard pass from J.J. McCarthy to Blake Corum.
The Spartans drove 68 yards on 10 plays to the UM 5-yard line on their next possession, but Jalen Berger was stopped for a 2-yard loss on fourth-and-inches to prevent MSU from taking the lead.
Moody connected on his second field goal, this time from 25 yards out with 1:08 left in the second quarter, as Michigan took a 13-7 lead into the half.
Moody tacked on two field goals in the third quarter, from 39 yards and 33 yards, to put the Wolverines on top, 19-7.
Moody made his fifth field goal from the game on a career-long 54-yarder early in the fourth quarter, giving Michigan a 15-point lead at 22-7.
Michigan took advantage of good field position on the MSU 8-yard line after a bad snap on a punt and Corum scored a 4-yard touchdown to make it 29-7 with 12:47 left in the game.
Michigan State returns to action next Saturday, Nov. 5 at Illinois.
