What you need to know about Spartan Hockey
• Michigan State returns to Munn Ice Arena for a four-game homestand, beginning with a series against Wisconsin.  The teams have an incredibly slim margin in the all-time meetings of the teams, as the Badgers have a one-game edge (62-61-4).  MSU owns a 33-22-2 mark all-time in games played in East Lansing, but have played just two of the last 10 games at Munn Arena.  The teams each swept in their home venues last season, with identical scores (3-2, 5-2). Â
• Michigan State hockey has announced a month-long "Spartan Hockey Strong" campaign that will put a spotlight on cancer awareness and honor those who have been affected by the disease.  Throughout the month of November, $1 of each ticket purchased for home games will be donated by MSU Athletics and Spartan Hockey to Brandon's Defense Foundation.  Learn more about the month-long initiatives hereÂ
•  The Spartans opened Big Ten play with a loss (0-5) and a tie (1-1) at Notre Dame, picking up the extra point in the standings via a shootout win to close the weekend.  That puts MSU in fifth place through one weekend, ahead of 0-4 Wisconsin and Michigan, which has yet to play a Big Ten game.  For the first time since Dec. 1, 2018, the Spartans won a shootout - the last one came at Michigan (T, 1-1; won 1-0 in four rounds).  MSU did not have a shootout last season. Â
 •  The Spartan penalty kill is perfect over the last four games and has extinguished 16 consecutive chances against dating back to the UMass-Lowell game on Oct. 14.  MSU's 89.3% success rate (25-28) ranks second in the Big Ten and seventh nationally.  The Spartans have scored six power play markers (the fourth highest total in the Big Ten) and has a 17.6 % success rate, which ranks fifth.  The Spartans are sixth in the Big Ten in penalty minutes overall, having been assessed just 9.38 penalty minutes per game over the first eight contests. Â
 •  MSU's top line of Karsen Dorwart centering Jagger Joshua and Daniel Russell are the three top scorers for MSU, with a combined eight  goals and 22 points. Joshua scored MSU's lone goal at Notre Dame, and Dorwart picked up the primary assist.  Dorwart and Russell share the team lead with six assists each (T-7th, B1G).
•  Dylan St. Cyr has played in seven of MSU's eight games this season, and owns a 2.28 GAA and .913 save percentage.  He ranks fifth  in the Big Ten in both categories.  He turned away  a season-best 39 saves in the most recent game vs. Notre Dame, and as importantly turned away two shots in the shootout to help MSU secure the extra point in the Big Ten standings.  He had 28 saves in the first game against the Irish, his former team.
