EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State men's and women's track & field teams are set to send a contingent of jumpers and throwers to the Meyo Invitational this weekend in South Bend, Ind.

MSU's representatives open competition on Friday, Feb. 4 at 11:30 a.m. with the women's pentathlon, while the women's triple jump will kick off action on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 10:30 a.m.

The Spartans had a busy stretch last weekend, as the sprints and jumps squads went to the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington, Kentucky, while the distance runners and throws team traveled to the IU Relays in Bloomington, Indiana.

Highlighting the Kentucky trip was Heath Baldwin and Ryan Talbot finished first and second in the men's heptathlon, as Baldwin set a personal best with 5701 points that included a 4.70m PR height in the heptathlon pole vault, while Talbot also had a career-best in points at 5599. Sophia Franklin and Trevor Stephenson took second place in the women's and men's pole vault events, respectively, while Avery Budz posted a height of 1.68m in the women's high jump to also finish second.

On the infield at the IU Relays, Quiara Wheeler placed sixth in the women's weight throw at 19.88m, while Joshua DeVries finished ninth in the men's weight throw with a 17.04 distance.

Franklin's 4.27m program-record height at the Michigan Invitational ranks top among Big Ten athletes and 14th in the NCAA, while Stephenson's 5.25m height at the Michigan Invitational is third-best in the conference and 25th nationally. Baldwin's 5701 points at McCravy's heptathlon put him ninth-best in the nation (2nd in B1G) and his 2.04m high jump in that multi-event ranks 11th in the conference, with Talbot's 5599 heptathlon points ranking 13th (3rd in B1G). Wheeler's weight throw of 20.73m at the Michigan Invitational also puts her fifth in the Big Ten and 27th nationally, while Budz' 1.73m PR in the high jump at the Michigan Invitational puts her 11th in the conference and Olivia Lopez's 5.75m long jump ranks 15th among Big Ten jumpers.

Michigan State will continue its preparation for the Big Ten Indoor Championships when it heads to the Windy City Invite on Feb. 11-12. Hosted by conference foe Wisconsin in Chicago, the meet will feature fellow Big Ten members Illinois and Michigan.
