EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State track & field will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska for the second time this season, to compete in the 2026 Outdoor Big Ten Track & Field Championships hosted by the University of Nebraska.Â
The 2026 Outdoor Big Ten Track & Field Championships will be a three-day event starting on Friday, May 15 at 11 a.m. ET with the women's hammer throw being the first contested event of the meet. Saturday's action resumes at 10:30 a.m. ET with the start of the men's decathlon 110m hurdles, while Sunday resumes at 11:10 a.m. ET with the women's triple jump. The meet will conclude following the men's 4x400m relay, which is scheduled to begin at 3:38 p.m. ET.
SPARTAN OUTLOOK: FROM EUGENE TO LINCOLN
Women's
At last year's Outdoor Big Ten Championships, the Spartan women had a successful trip to Eugene, earning nine top 10 finishes. Kate Stewart-Barnett stole the show for the Green & White when she captured her second career women's 3000m steeplechase Big Ten title with a time of 9:42.78. Stewart-Barnett looks to continue her dominance in the women's 3000m steeplechase at the 2026 B1G Outdoor Championships.
In addition to Stewart-Barnett's excellence in the women's 3000m steeplechase, Elle Adrian compiled an eighth-place finish in the women's hammer throw with a throw of 60.97m. During the regular season of this season, Adrian set a new personal best throw of 61.20m at the Jesse Owens Classic and looks to carry momentum into Lincoln this weekend.
The distance runners sported a strong outing guided by Olivia Millen, who each finished inside the top 20 in the women's 1500m run. Â Â
Leila Barmore continued the successful stay in Oregon when she set a new personal best in the women's triple jump, leaping 12.47m on her way to a top-15 finish. In 2026, Barmore has multiple top five finishes in the triple jump and came within .09 meters of tying her own personal best. As a sophomore, Jessica Stieb finished ninth in the women's shot put with a throw of 16.43m. In her junior campaign, Stieb set a new personal best throw in the women's shot put with a 16.48m throw, as well as captured multiple top three finishes in 2026.
Men's
The men replicated the strong showing the women's team put forth, claiming five top-10 finishes last year. Timothy Cherry finished 10th in last year's men's 1500m run, falling two spots short of qualifying. In 2026, Cherry eclipsed his previous personal best-time multiple times this season, with his new personal best being 3:38.73, which was the second fastest time in MSU history. Alongside Cherry, Brady McArdle and Michael Hegarty set new personal bests in the men's 1500m run in 2026 and look to bring the momentum with them to Lincoln.Â
Thrower Xaiver Griffiths set a new personal best in the men's hammer throw at last year's Outdoor Big Ten Championships but fell short of the finals. This year, Griffiths eclipsed the 61.00m mark numerous times and set a new personal best throw of 65.92m at the Jessee Owens Classic, the second furthest throw in school history. Â
Alongside Griffiths, fellow thrower Dillon Morlock and distance runner Andrew Nolan look to add to their marks from last year where Morlock finished eighth as a freshman in the men's shot put, and Nolan finished fourth in the men's 3000m steeplechase for the second-consecutive year. In 2026, Morlock set a new school record in the men's shot put with a throw of 20.07m to go along with numerous top three finishes in the shot put throughout the regular season.
As a junior, Brady Schultz soared through the air for MSU in the men's high jump last year with a mark of 2.06m, reaching the podium. Schultz notched multiple leaps above the 2.06m mark as a senior in the 2026 regular season along with a new personal best jump of 2.18m, which ranks fourth in program history. In the decathlon at last year's Outdoor Big Ten Championships, Dylan Terryberry headed the Spartans on his way to a personal best of 7,140 points to finish seventh. In 2026, Terryberry set a new personal best with 7,425 points, which is the eighth highest point total in Michigan State history.
ON DECK
After completion of the 2026 Outdoor Big Ten Track & Field, the NCAA postseason schedule begins with First Round action beginning on Wednesday, May 27 and concluding on Saturday, May 30 in Lexington, Kentucky. The season will culminate at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, held from Wednesday, June 10 through Saturday, June 13 in Eugene, Oregon.
