COACH ORLANDO'S THOUGHTS
"We are excited to begin the Big Ten season this weekend. It's the best time of the year for our team and each match will be a battle on the way to the B1G title. Our nonconference schedule and training from the past nine months has prepared us well for the opportunities ahead."
SCOUTING THE BADGERS
Wisconsin finished nonconference play with a 6-7 mark, and the team will also be playing their first B1G matchup of the year in Friday's contest with the Spartans. The Badgers have faced three of the same opponents as the Spartans during their own nonconference slate in Western Michigan, Marquette and Princeton.
Michigan State is 27-42 all-time against the Badgers, with a 19-19 record in matches played at home. On Feb. 21, 2021, Wisconsin defeated the Spartans 7-0 in East Lansing during the conference-only season of play last year.
SCOUTING THE CORNHUSKERS
Nebraska sits at 4-11 heading into conference action and will look to break free of a losing streak in four of the team's last five matches, all against ranked teams. Most recently, the Huskers dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 45 Oregon, but pulled off an upset win in a 4-3 victory over No. 48 UCF. Prior to Sunday's match against the Spartans, they will take on No. 12 Michigan on Friday, March 25.
The Spartans have played far fewer matches against Nebraska with a 7-7 overall record. Matchups have been even at 3-3 in contests played on MSU's home turf. Last time out on March 19, 2021, MSU defeated Nebraska on the road by a 5-2 margin.
UP NEXT
The Spartans are on the road next week for another Friday-Sunday slate of Big Ten matches. On April 1 they travel to Northwestern for a match at 6 p.m. with the Wildcats, and on Sunday, April 3 take on Illinois at noon in Champaign.
