EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's basketball senior guard Nia Clouden has captured another honor, after being named a region finalist for the 2022 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division I Coaches' All-America. She is one of 14 honorees from Region Four.
The selection committee will choose the 10-member Coaches' All-America team from these 52 finalists. The senior guard is one of 14 Big Ten athletes from Region Four to be honored.
Â
Clouden is the sixth Spartan to earn what was formerly called Kodak/All-Region honors. She is the first to earn the honor since Tori Jankoska after the 2016-17 season. Clouden joins Mary Kay Itnyre (1977-78), Kisha Kelley (1994-95), Liz Shimek (2004-05, 2005-06), Kalisha Keane (2010-11), Aerial Powers (2014-15, 2016-17) and Jankoska (2016-17).
She also garnered honorable mention All-American honors earlier this month.
Clouden, an Owings Mills, Maryland, native ended her storied Michigan State career second in career scoring with 1,882 points, behind all-time leading scorer Jankoska (2,212). Her 601 points scored this season were fourth all-time in MSU history. She is currently fifth in the Big Ten in scoring, averaging 20.0 points per game, which also stands 20th in the nation. Clouden is also seventh in the country in free throws made, making 192 this season.
WBCA member head coaches may nominate players from their own teams for Coaches' All-America. They then vote for the top eight players in their respective regions from among those players who are nominated. The selection committee, which is composed of head coaches from each region who are elected by their peers, may select up to 12 additional at-large finalists from the remaining pool of nominees.
The 2022 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America team will be announced Thursday, March 31.
Michigan State ended an injury-plagued season 15-15 this season, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament.
