East Lansing, Mich. – Since former men's basketball player Anthony Ianni graduated from Michigan State, he has worked hard as a motivational speaker and brought awareness to people with Autism.
Ianni came to Michigan State, walked on to the basketball team in 2009, was a recipient of the team's Unsung Player Award and graduated in 2012 with a degree in sociology.
Since then, he has devoted his life to bringing awareness to people with Autism, as he was the first athlete with autism to play Division I basketball, and published a book last year, "Centered: Autism, Basketball and One Athlete's Dreams."
This weekend in San Francisco, he will get an assist from one of his former teammates, as Ianni and Draymond Green will host a basketball clinic for students on the Autism Spectrum for Autism Awareness Day at Chase Center/Thrive City.
"I am honored that my teammate and friend Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors want to support the Autism community this April," Ianni said. "To do these events with not only someone who I admire and respect a lot, but with one of the NBA's top and respected franchises, is truly an honor and I know it means a lot to the Autism Community as well. I can't wait to get to the Bay Area to be a part of this weekend's festivities."
Ianni and Green will be partnering with the Autism Society of San Francisco in a variety of activities on Friday, April 1 and Saturday April 2.
On Friday, the pair will host a family at the Warriors practice facility and then host a clinic for 30 students that afternoon in Thrive City, a shopping center in San Francisco.
On Saturday, the students will be recognized at halftime of the Warriors game against the Utah Jazz and will be able to attend a Chalk Talk featuring Ianni and Green after the game.
