The Spartan Runner Breaks Own School Record by Over Four Seconds
AZUSA, Calif. – It was another historic race for Michigan State track athlete Morgan Beadlescomb late Thursday evening at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif.
Â
Competing in the first heat of the men's 5000m invite, Beadlescomb used a 13:17.16 time to not only blow past his previous school-record time, but put himself at No. 9 among the NCAA all-time leaders for the outdoor 5000m. Finishing second in the heat to Washington's Brian Fay and a 13:16.52 time that landed sixth in collegiate history, Beadlescomb cut off over four seconds from his previous personal-record time of 13:21.40 from last year's NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Â
Fay and Beadlescomb were two of the six runners to break the previous Azusa Pacific Stadium and Bryan Clay Invitational record of 13:24.77, completing their heat a little bit before 9:30 p.m. local time and half past midnight back on the MSU campus.
Â
This is the second time in three months that Beadlescomb has earned himself a spot on the NCAA's top-10 all-time performances lists. The Spartan ran the fourth-fastest time in NCAA history for the indoor mile when he posted a 3:52.03 in the Windy City Invite's Magnificent Mile back on Feb. 11.
Â
The rest of the Michigan State track and field program will compete this weekend at the Louisville Invitational, April 15-16.
