Men's Tennis Defeated at Michigan

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's tennis put up a fight in the team's final regular-season match, eventually falling 6-1 to nationally-ranked rival Michigan. The Spartans battled it out with the Wolverines picking up one point in singles action on a sunny Saturday afternoon in Ann Arbor.

The Spartans conclude the regular season 14-13 overall with a 1-8 record in Big Ten play. Michigan finishes 19-3 with an 8-1 conference mark.
Michigan started out the match 1-0 after winning the doubles point, taking victories at the top two courts. Jack Winkler and Graydon Lair battled into extra point territory with Jacob Bickerseth and Patrick Maloney before the Wolverines pulled ahead for the 7-5 win. Nick Williams and Reed crocker fell 6-0 at No. 2.
MSU won one of six matches in singles play. Anthony Pero was victorious in a match over Nick Beaty at No. 6 singles. After falling 6-2 in the first set, Pero went up 7-5 in the second set and won 10-8 in the tiebreaker decision to take the match.
All other Spartans fell in straight sets to their Michigan opponents. Winkler fought hard on the top court against Ondrej Styler, falling by a 6-3, 6-3 margin. Freshman Max Sheldon was defeated 6-2, 6-2 by Maloney at No. 2 singles. At. No. 4, Lair won six points against Bickerseth in a battle won by his Michigan opponent, 6-2, 6-4.
The Spartans will await seeding and scheduling for the 2022 Big Ten Tournament, hosted by Wisconsin and beginning on Thursday, April 28.
