Spartans Face Purdue in First Round of Big Ten Tournament

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's tennis will take on Purdue in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday, April 29. The match is scheduled for a 12 p.m. (ET) start at the Nielsen Tennis Center on the campus of host school Wisconsin. The conference revealed the 2022 bracket and tournament schedule on April 25.
The Spartans (14-13, 1-8 Big Ten) will rematch the Boilermakers (9-14, 2-7 Big Ten), who came out of East Lansing with a narrow 5-2 victory on April 10. Purdue received the No. 8 seed in the tournament, while Michigan State is the No. 9 seed.
The winner of Thursday's match between the Spartans and the Boilermakers will face top-seeded Ohio State on Friday, April 29 at 10 a.m. ET. Ohio State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin all earned automatic bids to the quarterfinals.
All 10 men's tennis programs will play in the tournament, which runs from April 28-May 1 in Madison, Wisconsin. In last year's tournament, the Spartans won in the first round over Iowa, 4-2, earning their first Big Ten Tournament win since 2014. Michigan State bowed out of the 2021 tournament in the quarterfinals with a 4-0 loss at the hands of Ohio State.
The Big Ten Tournament semifinals will be played April 30 at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. (ET), while the conference championship match is set for May 1 at 1 p.m. (ET).
