MSU welcomes Indiana on Friday, now at 4 p.m., and Purdue on Sunday at Noon, for the last weekend of the regular season with eyes on first B1G title since 1967.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – No. 23 Michigan State men's tennis is ready to hit the courts at home for the last time this season with back-to-back matches against Indiana on Friday, April 17 at 4 p.m., and Senior Celebrations against Purdue on Sunday, April 19 at 12 p.m., with Big Ten Conference regular-season championship implications.
Friday's match has been moved up to a 4 p.m. start in hopes of playing outdoors at the Spartan Tennis Outdoor Courts.
Michigan State brings a 13-8 overall record and 10-1 Big Ten Conference mark, currently tied with Ohio State atop the conference standings, and MSU could clinch a share of its first Big Ten regular-season championship since 1967.
The Spartans are currently 4-1 in home matches and 7-5 in away matches, coming off a hard-fought 4-3 loss at Michigan on Saturday, which snapped MSU's 10-match win streak.
Coming back to competition after a rivalry weekend, the Spartans will be hungry for a victory. With a home court advantage, Michigan State will be hunting for the doubles point early in the match. Securing the doubles point and gaining an early lead will give the Spartans the momentum they need ahead of singles action.
This is a big weekend for the Michigan State men's tennis team. Not only is it the last weekend playing at home, it is the last weekend of conference action and the Spartans are on a mission strong before the Big Ten Tournament.
The Spartans are aiming for an impressive performance this weekend to give the three Spartan seniors a proper send-off. The Spartan Senior Celebrations will include David Saye, Aristotelis Thanos and Ozan Baris in the match against Purdue on Sunday, April 19 at 12 p.m.
